What is extra time and how can I use it?

Qustodio allows you to set up daily time limits for your children. Our extra time feature allows you to extend today’s limit and allow your child some extra time if needed at the touch of a button.

Please note that allowing extra time will simply extend the amount of device time your child has today. It will not affect your other rules or prevent you from pausing the internet.

Explore the available options below:

How to add extra time

1. Log in to your Qustodio account and go to the child's profile.

2. Go to the What’s happening now card. If your child has not yet reached their daily screen time limit, click on the Quick actions icon that appears there and select Add extra time.

If your child has already reached their screen time limit, a plus icon will be displayed instead. Click the plus icon and then select Add extra time.

Please note, if no time limits have been set, the extra time button option won't appear.

3. Choose the amount of extra time you want to assign and confirm by clicking Add extra time.

You’ll then see today’s limit plus the extra time you assigned your child in the “What’s happening now” card, as shown in the example below:

4. When your child reaches their original time limit for today, they can start to use the extra time you assigned.

Once your child has used up both their usual time quota plus any extra time, the time bar will display Time’s up!

My child sent me an extra time request

Important: To use this feature, ensure both your Qustodio Parents App and your child’s Kids App are updated to the latest versions. Please note that this feature is currently only available on iOS Qustodio Kids App.

Your child can send you an extra time request directly from their iOS Qustodio Kids App. This option appears 15 minutes before their daily time limit is reached and once their devices are blocked.

Here's how to manage their request:

  1. You'll get a notification on your device.
  2. Simply open the Parents App.
  3. Go to the Notifications center to accept or deny the request. If you decline it, Qustodio won’t let your child know your decision.

If you prefer your child not to request extra time, you can turn off this feature in the Parents App > Notifications center > Settings.

How to edit extra time

If you’ve added extra time and want to modify it:

  1. Click again on the Settings icon on the Now card
  2. Choose Edit extra time
  3. Adjust the amount of extra time you want to be available and click Confirm

It’s as simple as that! We hope this feature makes it more convenient for you to manage your child’s screen time needs.
