How to activate or deactivate Location Monitoring
Once you install Qustodio on a mobile device, location monitoring is turned on by default.
Make sure you have the latest version of Qustodio installed on your child's device to ensure that location monitoring works properly.
You can activate Location Monitoring any time on the Parent Dashboard > Rules > Location by switching the button to the right. To deactivate it, switch the button to the left.
How do I see my child's location?
Each time your child’s device changes location you’ll see an entry in their Activity Timeline and the Family Locator history. If the device hasn’t changed location since the last time Qustodio checked, you won’t see any updates in the timeline until the device moves to a new location.
Activity Timeline
You can check your child's location history in their Timeline, just like with all other activities.
The most recent location will always be displayed at the top of the Timeline. Additionally, you can filter the Timeline to show only Location entries so you can review your child's full location history (note that locations are not saved for more than 30 days).
For a clearer picture of the areas your child visited, tap on any location report to display it on a map.
Family Locator
Qustodio’s Family Locator feature lets you see where your child is and where they’ve been. It can track Android and iOS devices.
Family Locator is only accessible via the Parents App. You can access it through the My Family side menu. It is available to Premium users only.
Family Locator provides you with a map where you will be able to see the last known locations of all children’s devices that have location tracking enabled. Below the map, you will also be able to see a list of children with tracked devices (displayed in alphabetical order), and their last known locations (if available).
On Android devices, you can obtain directions to any location on the map by clicking its pin, followed by the action button. This will take you directly to your device’s native maps app which will display directions to the location.
Additionally, My places is a function within Family Locator that uses geofencing technology to alert you whenever a family member enters or exits a predefined area.
You have three ways of adding places to be notified when a child enters or leaves a pre-defined zone:
- From the family view within Family Locator, simply tap the location icon and enter the address of the location you would like to add.
- Also, from a child's location history, you can select any recently reported location. Then, tap ‘View on map’ and add it to your places.
- Finally, you can use the location Timeline reports on your child’s profile. Tap on the location report you want to add and select ‘Add to your places’.
Why do I not see Family Locator on my computer?
Family Locator is currently only available to use on the Parents App which you can easily install on your mobile or tablet. Download it now on Google Play or App Store.
How do I manage notifications?
Once you've added a place, you'll automatically be notified whenever your kids enter or leave that place. If you decide you no longer wish to receive notifications, you can simply remove the place from Your Places, and you will stop receiving push notifications on your kids' movements to and from that place.
How can I change the Location update frequency
It’s not possible to change the frequency of location updates: the parent dashboard will update every time Qustodio detects a new location.
Free vs. Premium Location Monitoring
The free version of Qustodio will place an alert in your child’s activity timeline each time your child’s device location has changed, however you will not be able to view the actual location. The Premium version of Qustodio will allow you to open a map to view each of the locations reported by Qustodio.
Troubleshooting
Qustodio’s location feature needs both GPS and an internet connection to track the location of a device. If you’re not seeing location updates or you’re having trouble with Family Locator, please check the steps provided in this article.
